Grant funding received

We’re thrilled to share some fantastic news. Thanks to a generous grant from Settle Middle School Legacy Fund, we have purchased a stock of brand new instruments for our expanding training band.

We are passionate about nurturing the next generation of musicians and are delighted to welcome four enthusiastic new recruits from Giggleswick Primary School, who will begin lessons with us in January.

It is increasingly rare to see young players taking up music, especially as schools face significant funding challenges in the arts. That’s why it’s so important to support and encourage these budding musicians as they join our amazing musical community.

We’d love to hear your thoughts—where would you like to see our training band perform? Let’s rally around these new players, helping them feel confident and appreciated as they embark on their musical journey.

Our training band is growing, and it’s open to all, regardless of age or experience. If you’ve ever thought about joining, now’s the perfect time! The training band meet on Wednesdays at 6.30 - 7.15 at the Conservative Club, Station Road, Settle.

Arthur and Walter make the news

Our oldest band member, Arthur Riley (95) with many decades of experience as a bandsman, was featured in The Craven Herald and the Yorkshire Post recently. The Craven Herald article also featured our youngest player, Walter, who is only seven years old and is a member of our junior band.

Band plays whilst the Flying Scotsman rolls in to Hellifield Station

The band played on Hellifield Station platform for the annual birthday service of Hellifield Methodist Church in July 2023. The event happened to coincide with the arrival of the iconic Flying Scotsman just as we were finishing the song 'Ticket to Ride'. What a treat for everyone!

If you'd like to see a video of the moment, there is some amateur footage on our Facebook site at Hellifield Station
